CEO Search Process

Fenway Health’s mission is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and all people in our neighborhoods through access to the highest quality health care, education, research and advocacy.  As we begin the search to identify a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), we are committed to finding a new leader who not only reflects these values of our mission and beliefs, but who is also representative of those very communities and populations whom we serve.

The Fenway Health Search Committee, working in partnership with selected search firm Heidrick & Struggles, is dedicated to conducting a search that is as inclusive, transparent and thorough as possible in order to identify our next leader to move the organization forward. Together, the committee and firm are engaging all stakeholders, including staff, employees and our community members, to help shape the process and search. The committee is comfortable that these efforts to obtain input, as well as broad representation of the organization’s constituencies among the membership of the committee itself, will allow the committee to consider all community voices throughout the search process.  And while the search committee will be helpful during the CEO search process, it is the Board of Directors who will determine Fenway Health’s next Chief Executive Officer.

As we embark on the process to find a new CEO, Fenway Health is proud to announce we are partnering with renowned executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles to lead the search process for new and inclusive talent to lead our organization moving forward.

The Fenway Health Search Committee will strive to ensure that the search for Fenway’s new CEO will be as inclusive and thorough as possible.

The committee held a series of listening sessions with staff and community stakeholders to solicit input on what attributes the next CEO should have to lead Fenway Health on a successful path forward; to identify what type of individual would be able to bring his or her own vision into this context; and to identify any other challenges or opportunities Fenway Health is facing that need to be part of the incoming CEO’s priorities for the organization.

Based on the input received during this initial phase of its work, the search committee has developed a Search Statement that articulates the characteristics Fenway Health seeks in its next CEO. With that document finalized, the committee will begin the confidential process of researching and identifying prospects.

The Importance of Confidentiality

All of the advice the search committee has received and Fenway Health’s own past experience indicate that a confidential process is critical to a successful search. The best candidates will not appear for an open or compromised search. Toward that end, all members of the CEO Search Committee and the staff supporting the committee have signed a confidentiality agreement. A copy of that agreement is reproduced here.

The search committee is comfortable that the significant efforts to obtain input at the beginning of the process, as well as the broad representation of campus constituencies among the membership of the committee itself, will allow the committee to consider all community voices throughout the search process.
