Melissa “ Misty” Cranston-Bates has been a Behavioral Health Specialist at Fenway since 2017. She has a Master’s of Clinical Social Work from Smith College School for Social work. She received her BA in Women’s Studies from The University of Rhode Island. She is a Massachusetts CANS Certified Assessor.
Misty most recently worked as a Behavioral Health Specialist in a primary care setting at Cambridge Health Alliance. Before this she worked in community mental health where she ran groups for survivors of domestic violence and worked as an In Home Therapist for children and families.
Misty’s clinical interests include intersectionality as it relates to race, class, gender, culture and sexual orientation; trauma survivorship; mood disorders; behavior change; and family systems. She works from an empowerment lens. She often draws from relational cultural theory, psychodynamic theories, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral approaches.
