Chris Grasso Named Fenway’s Chief Information Officer

We are pleased to announce that Chris Grasso has been named Fenway Health’s Chief Information Officer. This new position will consolidate leadership over our Information Technology (IT), Clinical Applications, Database and Digital Research, Data Analytics, Telehealth, and Health Information Management (HIM) teams to create a unified department overseen by one individual. Prior to accepting this new position, Grasso served as Associate Vice President of Health Informatics and Data Services.

Grasso will play a critical role in defining Fenway’s digital direction, building a future where anyone, anywhere can access the culturally competent, high-quality care we offer. In addition, she will provide leadership oversight for the design, development, implementation, operations, and support of all information and technology systems that assist clinical and non-clinical staff in the delivery of patient care, medical education, public health, and research. She will also advance the health center’s clinical quality and safety initiatives through the use of clinical information systems.

In her 19 years here at Fenway Health, Grasso has made an incredible impact. Her accomplishments include:

  •  Implementing a patient portal in 2007
  • Incorporating sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) questions into our EHR which was the use case for the national model for implementing SOGI questions in EHR’s
  • Advising EHR vendors on incorporating SOGI questions into their products as well as making their products more LGBTQIA+ inclusive
  • Educating health care organizations on the importance of SOGI data collection and analyzing data to close care gaps
  • Implementing a web-based electronic patient reported outcomes (ePRO) system in 2009
  • Introducing REDCap in 2011 which is now used in TFI and health center operations
  • Implementing Tableau in 2014
  • Pivoting quickly to Telehealth in 2020 in response to COVID-19
  • Oversight of Fenway’s participation in multiple data registry studies
  • Co-authoring nearly 50 peer-reviewed publications
  • Collaborating with Community Care Cooperative (C3) and 11 other health centers to purchase and implement Epic
  • Serving as a subject matter expert on several national committees and standards groups including the Gravity Project, HL7 Gender Harmony and National Quality Forum’s Health Equity Advisory Group
