The Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center offers quality health care for youth and young adults ages 12 to 29 who may not feel comfortable going anywhere else. Many of the Borum’s patients are LGBT or curious, HIV-positive, living on the streets, using drugs or alcohol, engaging in sex work or gang involved.
In 2011, the Borum cared for more than 1,500 teenagers and young adults.
- Borum patients made nearly 6,000 visits for care and counseling
- Borum patients were split nearly 50/50 between young men and women
- The Borum also cared for 24 young people who identify as transgender
- 61 HIV-positive young people received care at the Borum

Services offered at the Borum include:
- Medical and mental health care
- HIV counseling and testing and HIV care
- STD testing and treatment
- Women’s health, including birth control and emergency contraception
- A transgender health program
- Substance abuse services
- Health insurance enrollment
The Borum is affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as an important component of Community Care Alliance, and with Boston Children’s Hospital. It is licensed as a health center, mental health clinic, and substance abuse center by the Department of Public Health. |
