Dear Fenway Community,
Spring is nearly here — and with it comes that familiar shift in the air, a quiet reminder that renewal is always possible. I find myself thinking about what that means for our community: the patients who trust us with their care, the staff who show up every day with courage and compassion, and the partners and supporters who make this work sustainable. It is a good moment to pause, reflect, and share what we have been building together.
The news is genuinely encouraging. Through January, we are performing well ahead of budget, reinforcing our financial stability. Patient volume is growing steadily. Provider and staff turnover is at its lowest point since before the pandemic — a reflection of the culture this team has worked hard to build and protect. Patient experience scores are at a record high. And, at the end of 2025, more Fenway patients had their diabetes under control than at any point in the past nine years. This progress is no small feat- it reflects real momentum. They represent real people living healthier lives because of what we do here.
Walk-in access is becoming more available across all clinical departments, making care easier to reach. That matters to the communities we serve — and it recently showed up in a way I want to share with you.
Two men walked into our clinic — uninsured and turned away elsewhere. Someone in their lives told them: try Fenway. With the support of an interpreter, we learned that one was living with HIV and nearly out of medication, and the other was close to running out of PrEP. Within hours, both were connected to coverage support, testing, expert consultation, and same-day treatment. We were ready — with access, language support, financial pathways, and specialized care — because that is exactly what Fenway is built to do. This is Fenway Without Walls in action: meeting people where they are and removing every barrier between them and the care they deserve.
We are also investing in the future of that care. This year we launched our new Pristina Via 3D mammography system, developed by GE Healthcare — advanced technology that enables earlier detection, greater accuracy, and fewer unnecessary callbacks. For our patients, that means more clarity and more peace of mind at a moment that already carries a great deal of both.
As the external environment grows more complex, we are strengthening our long-term foundation. We are launching a search for a Vice President of Development to deepen our philanthropy and donor engagement work. Once that role is filled, Dallas Ducar will move into the position of Executive Vice President of External Affairs, leading advocacy, communications, and community partnerships, and working closely with the incoming VP of Development to ensure a thoughtful, well-supported transition. Please watch for the job posting — and share it widely. The right person is out there, and your networks matter.
Our advocacy continues in parallel. We recently submitted public comments on federal proposals affecting Medicaid and CHIP coverage for gender-affirming care for youth, and on Medicare and Medicaid hospital participation requirements. These comments reflect what has always been true of Fenway: we are committed to evidence-based care, and we will continue to speak clearly and publicly in defense of the dignity and well-being of the communities we serve.
None of this happens without you — the clinicians, staff, donors, partners, and community members who are Fenway Health in every meaningful sense of the word. Thank you for your continued trust, your dedication, and your belief in what we are building together.
With deep gratitude,
Jordina Shanks
Fenway Health CEO
