Behavioral Health Acupuncture Program Closing September 30

Dear Fenway Health community,

Fenway Health would like to inform our community that our Behavioral Health acupuncture program will be closing on September 30, 2022. This decision was made as part of Fenway Health’s ongoing efforts to reshape our programs and services to meet the changing needs of our patients and clients.

The Behavioral Health acupuncture service, founded in 1989 and currently offered through The Addiction Recovery and Wellness Program, has been a valued part of our complementary therapies for 33 years. While program attendance had been declining for a number of years, the program’s temporary shutdown during the early days of COVID-19 worsened this and, unfortunately, attendance at our group acupuncture sessions never recovered.

As always, we strive to remain flexible in adapting our service models to meet changing patient and client needs. As acupuncture in Behavioral Health has become increasingly less utilized, it has become clear that ending group acupuncture will help Behavioral Health deploy resources to services that are more utilized. The current substance use disorder groups that meet on Wednesday and Thursday will continue as part of Behavioral Health’s group program once the Behavioral Health acupuncture service ends. We will no longer have a formally named Addiction Recovery and Wellness Program.

Our Medical department will continue to offer Medical acupuncture services.

Thank you all for your understanding as we work to evolve Fenway’s Behavioral Health services to best serve our patients, clients, and community.

Best,

Frank Fleming and Monique Willett, Co-Executive Directors of Behavioral Health
