Important Medicaid Changes in 2023

Fenway Health would like to make our community aware of some upcoming changes to Medicaid. Starting in March 2020, states have been required to maintain individual Medicaid coverage as a condition of receiving enhanced federal COVID funding, and have been prohibited from terminating that coverage until the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE).

In January 2023, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 de-linked the Medicaid continuous enrollment requirements from the PHE, mandating that the continuous Medicaid enrollment provisions will expire on March 31.

Beginning on April 1, Medicaid state agencies will be allowed to terminate Medicaid coverage for individuals who are no longer found eligible following a redetermination.

If you are one of the millions of people who moved during the declared COVID-19 public health emergency, you must update your contact information with your state Medicaid agency and to respond quickly to any requests for Medicaid verification. Not doing so may put you in risk of losing Medicaid coverage.

To learn more, please read the Medicaid and CHIP Continuous Enrollment Unwinding Toolkit, available here in English and here in Spanish.
