Aimee Carew-Lyons, PhD, RN, CPNP

Aimee Carew-Lyons joined Fenway Health as Chief Clinical Officer in 2021. Carew-Lyons brings 30 years of experience designing and implementing high quality, equitable, and cost-effective clinical programs and practices. Most recently, she served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at Franciscan Children’s Hospital, where she oversaw a staff of 650 and a budget of $65 million.

Carew-Lyons is a healthcare operations expert who has led multiple systems change initiatives that have improved healthcare outcomes and workplace culture for clinical staff while reducing costs. At Franciscan Children’s Hospital she introduced a shared governance structure and instituted professional development pathway for nurses that increased staff retention. As an organizational leader, she has cultivated engaged, highly skilled, racially and linguistically diverse staff focused on delivering high quality, compassionate, and cost-effective care that prioritizes the health and safety of patients and their families.

Prior to working at Franciscan Children’s Hospital, Carew-Lyons worked at Boston Children’s Hospital where she oversaw clinical and administrative operations for tertiary and quaternary services for the medical-surgical ICU, critical care transport team, life support program, and emergency communications center. While there, she oversaw the design, development, and implementation of six additional pediatric ICU beds to the existing ICU unit, and revised clinical staff benchmarks that resulted in increased patient care and satisfaction.

Carew-Lyons holds a doctorate in Nursing Population Health from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her doctoral work focused on health equity. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Boston College, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Northeastern University. She lives in Boston with her wife, four daughters, and four dogs.
