Dear Project ABLE advocates,
The Senate has finished deliberating on the Senate budget. No additional HIV/AIDS funding was approved in the Senate for the HIV/AIDS Line Item (4512-0103).
Now the House and Senate budgets for FY24 will go to a conference committee which will resolve the differences between the House and Senate versions.
To recap:
The House budget funds the HIV/AIDS Line Item (4512-0103) at $36.2 million.
The $36.2 million in funding enables continued funding beyond July 1 for the workforce development grants that DPH awarded in January/February 2023. Plus, the additional $1 million that was added that can fund HIV/AIDS/HCV coordinators in some of the county jails, which Project ABLE requested.
The Senate budget funds the HIV/AIDS Line Item (4512-0103) at $33.7 million. This amount is below FY23 (current) funding.
Project ABLE is advocating for the conference committee’s adoption of $36.2 million as recommended by the House budget. This represents an INCREASE of $1 million over this year’s funding.
Those emails will CC the members of the FY24 budget Conference Committee:
