Evidence-Informed Interventions Coordinating Center for Technical Assistance

The Evidence-Informed Interventions Coordinating Center for Technical Assistance (E2i CCTA) provides support for 26 Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program-funded recipients or sub-recipients for the implementation of evidence-informed interventions. We aim to facilitate and guide recipients in their efforts to reduce HIV-related health disparities and improve health outcomes, including increasing retention in care, improving treatment adherence, and improving viral suppression for people living with HIV.

What We Do

There is a pronounced need for the implementation of evidence-informed interventions to reduce HIV-related health disparities and to improve health outcomes for people living with HIV. While research has defined best practices for addressing steps along the HIV care continuum, the implementation of such interventions lags behind and is especially true for the implementation of interventions that:

  1. are tailored for Black men who have sex with men (Black MSM) and transgender women
  2. address the co-occurring behavioral health needs of people living with HIV
  3. address the social, structural, and environmental barriers, including experiences of trauma, that hinder attainment of good health outcomes

As such, it is of the upmost importance that the healthcare organizations that serve people living with HIV are given access to well-designed, rigorously evaluated, and culturally-appropriate interventions; and, just as crucially, are given the technical assistance to implement these interventions.

Translating evidence-informed interventions from academic research settings to real-world health care and community-based settings is challenging, and so the E2i CCTA provides technical assistance and site support to up to 26 Ryan White HIV/AIDS Programs to aid in the implementation of evidence-informed interventions in four focus areas:

  • Improving HIV health outcomes for transgender women.
  • Improving HIV health outcomes for Black MSM
  • Integrating behavioral health with primary medical care for people living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Identifying and addressing trauma among people living with HIV.

Who We Are

The E2i CCTA is a HRSA/HAB- funded four-year (August 2017 – July 2021) cooperative agreement with The Fenway Institute, in collaboration with AIDS United, for the initiative entitled Using Evidence-Informed Interventions to Improve Health Outcomes among People Living with HIV.

Under this initiative, and in tandem with the E2i CCTA, the Evidence-Informed Interventions Evaluation Center (E2i EC) is housed at University of San Francisco California, Center for AIDS Prevention Studies. The E2i EC serves to evaluate the outcomes and impact of the evidence-informed interventions implemented through the initiative.
