Meningitis Outbreak Reported Among Gay, Bisexual, MSM In Florida

Over the past seven day, Florida has seen an ongoing meningitis outbreak that is impacting the gay and bisexual male community and other men who have sex with men (MSM).

In response to the ongoing outbreak of meningococcal disease in Florida, the CDC is encouraging gay, bisexual, and MSM to get a MenACWY vaccine if they live in Florida and talk with their healthcare provider about getting a MenACWY vaccine if they are traveling to Florida

The CDC is also emphasizing the importance of routine MenACWY vaccination for people living with HIV. For the best protection, people with HIV should make sure they have gotten their 2-dose primary series of a MenACWY vaccine and are up to date with booster doses.

If you identify as gay, bisexual or MSM, or are living with HIV, and are planning travel to Florida in the upcoming weeks to months, please schedule a nursing visit at Fenway Health to receive your Meningitis vaccine.
