Put Your Heart To Work
As with donors and staff members, Fenway’s volunteers work toward a common goal. Committed, reliable and closely linked to our mission, you can make a very real difference in whatever way you are able to serve.
We invite you to join the Fenway family and have a positive impact on your community while making new friends and connections.
Thank you for your interest in participating in AIDS Action’s volunteer programs. In an effort to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 for our staff and clients, some of our volunteer programs have been temporarily suspended until further notice. We will continue to update this page as volunteer opportunities become available.
We couldn’t do our work without the generous support of our volunteers and interns, who contribute thousands of hours and countless talents to AIDS Action each year. With opportunities in multiple programs in Boston and Cambridge, we’re likely to have a volunteer opportunity that fits your skills and schedule.
Boomerangs Volunteers (Jamaica Plain, Central Square, the South End, and Dedham)
Boomerangs offers both individual and group volunteer opportunities at our Dedham Distribution Center. While sizing, tagging, and hanging clothing volunteers can channel their inner fashionista and build comradery with their fellow team members. Every garment that is prepared for sale helps to secure critical funding for client programs at AIDS Action Committee. To learn more about this opportunity and other opportunities at Boomerangs visit shopboomerangs.org.
Check-In is not currently accepting applications, please check back soon.
Volunteers come in on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings and provide a consistent, caring connection by phone for people living with HIV/AIDS. Each volunteer has a set of clients they develop relationships with over time. Volunteers complement our case management services by helping clients work through problems and encouraging their successes. Volunteers report feeling very connected to their work and enjoy the warm and supportive team atmosphere.
The Check-In program has a critical need for bilingual English/Spanish, Creole, Portuguese and/or Cape Verdean Creole speakers. Persons with an aptitude for those languages are strongly encouraged to apply. The Check-in Program is located at 75 Amory Street, Boston, MA 02119.
Housing Search and Advocacy Volunteer
Volunteers help Housing Search Specialists by filing, organizing, and photocopying housing applications, and by calling property managers and housing authorities to discuss client needs and housing options. Volunteers in this position will play an integral role in providing the most up-to-date housing resources and information to our staff and clients. Volunteers in this position also have the option of assisting with weekly housing search groups for clients of AIDS Action Committee who are currently homeless or are looking for alternative housing. Volunteers work one-on-one with clients within the group to help them complete housing applications. We are looking for volunteers who are detail-oriented, proactive, and excited about working on projects to improve access to affordable housing for our clients. Volunteers must be available between 9 am and 5 pm on week days. Our Housing and Residential Programs are located at 75 Amory Street, Boston, MA 02119.
Youth on Fire (YOF) Volunteer
Engage homeless youth through relationship building, assist in creating and maintaining a safe space, and learn to work within YOF’s core philosophies and goals. You may be asked to engage in supportive, non-judgmental conversations with homeless youth around sex, sexual health, pregnancy, homelessness, substance use, HIV/AIDS and STDs. Assist in the kitchen, make trips to the food bank, help organize the space, and develop relationships with members while playing board games, pool, video games, watching movies and more. Youth on Fire is located at 1 Church Street, Cambridge, MA 02138
