Trans Health Program and Gender-Affirming Care

The Trans Health Program at Fenway Health supports members of trans and gender diverse communities, their families, and the providers who serve them. We provide patient-centered, evidence-based care to ensure trans and gender diverse people are informed and affirmed in their gender and healthcare needs. Resources and information for gender affirming adult care can be found below, for trans and gender diverse youth and adolescents and their families, click here.

  • Fenway’s unique, integrated model of care means that all departments, programs, and clinicians provide gender affirming care and services. Gender identity is part of what makes you, you! Fenway is here to support, celebrate, and care for the whole you.
  • Our aim is to offer low-barrier access to gender affirming care through informed consent. We recognize that gender affirming care is integral to overall health and wellness.
  • We use a patient-centered approach to caring for trans and gender diverse people through resource development, health navigation, education, community outreach, peer support, and events. Fenway promotes individualized care to empower you to make health decisions and access the care you need.
  • We engage regional, national, and international communities in education, advocacy, and research with the goal of increasing access to evidence-based affirming care, thereby decreasing health disparities for trans and gender diverse populations.

While we do not have a full-service surgical program at Fenway Health, hysterectomy, vaginectomy, metoidioplasty, and phalloplasty consultations are available, and we are happy to assist patients and community members with accessing all other surgical care they need. To schedule a hysterectomy, vaginectomy, metoidioplasty, or phalloplasty consultation please reach out to our reproductive health team at 617.927.6299 (voicemails will be returned within one business day).

If you are a medical patient at Fenway Health seeking gender affirming surgery, the first step is to speak with your medical provider about your goals and how to meet any requirements your insurance or future surgeon may have.

Fenway providers are able to assist with pre-surgery assessments and referrals for our primary care patients. Before Fenway mental health and medical providers can write a referral letter for surgery, you must have decided on a specific surgeon and a specific procedure. Fenway providers do not write referral letters addressed “To Whom It May Concern.” Contact your medical provider or care team to request a surgery assessment and/or assistance.

Check out our Resource Library for surgery guides, community boards, financial resources, and more!
