We’re excited to announce that staff dentist Tyler Sanslow, DMD, recently presented on behalf of Fenway Health at the American Institute of Dental Public Health (AIDPH) 2020 Colloquium. AIDPH is a nonprofit organization serving as a professional resource for dental public health students, scholars, researchers, clinicians, academics, and advocates. In this capacity, the mission of AIDPH is to advance the science and education of dental public health through the annual meeting.
The theme of this year’s colloquium was Confronting Inequity through Oral Health Policy. Dr. Sanslow presented on Access to Oral Health Care & Health Equity for the LGBTQIA+ Community. His presentation defined important terminology for the LGBTQIA+ community, explained the many disparities in health care often faced by LGBTQIA+ people, and offered best practices for ensuring a care environment is welcome and affirming for LGBTQIA+ patients.
“The oral health needs of the LGBTQIA+ population are relatively the same as the general population; it is the nuanced approach, considerations and practices that differ in providing inclusive and quality care to the underserved LGBTQIA+ community,” said Sanslow.
You can watch a video of his presentation here. Thank you, Dr. Sanslow, for sharing this important information and for representing Fenway Health Dental!
