Fenway Health is excited to now offer the injectable HIV treatment Cabenuva (Cabotegravir/rilpivirine) to our patients seeking treatment for HIV. Cabenuva is a long acting, complete HIV regimen administered at least once every two months in clinic.
You may be eligible to start Cabenuva if you have maintained a suppressed HIV viral load for at least three months and do not have chronic Hepatitis B Virus (HBV).
Please note that it is very important that, if approved for Cabenuva use, you follow up for your injection as advised by your provider and maintain good communication with your care team.
Once approved, you will receive your first “initiation” injection of Cabenuva. You will receive your second injection 28 days later, known as the second “initiation” injection dose. Your third dose, and each dose thereafter, will be administered every 56 days (or two months). These are also referred to as your “continuation” injections.
Common side effects of Cabenuva include injection site pain, fever, fatigue, headache, muscle or bone pain, nausea, sleep problems, dizziness, and rash.
If you are a Fenway Health patient and interested in learning more about Cabenuva, please contact your primary care team to discuss if this HIV treatment option is right for you.
