Access: Drug User Health Program
As one of several state-sanctioned and state-funded syringe exchange programs in Massachusetts, AIDS Action’s Access: Drug User Health Program distributes and exchanges syringes to people who inject drugs (PWID). Access: Drug User Health Program is one of the state’s pilot sites for the distribution of Narcan, a nasal spray provided to IDUs and their network of supportive family and friends to reverse potentially fatal overdoses. Our Access: Drug User Health Program is located at 359 Green Street in Central Square, Cambridge.

Youth on Fire (YOF) Volunteer
Engage homeless youth through relationship building, assist in creating and maintaining a safe space, and learn to work within YOF’s core philosophies and goals. You may be asked to engage in supportive, non-judgmental conversations with homeless youth around sex, sexual health, pregnancy, homelessness, substance use, HIV/AIDS and STDs. Assist in the kitchen, make trips to the food bank, help organize the space, and develop relationships with members while playing board games, pool, video games, watching movies and more. Affordable Housing Outreach Intern
The Housing Search & Advocacy Program is seeking an intern for the Summer or Fall 2022 semesters to help with outreach to individuals who are currently on our waitlist. This position will conduct outreach to approximately 400 individuals and/or their caseworkers to assist them with completing the state-aided C.H.A.M.P.S. application. The goal of this position is to assist these individuals in starting their housing search while they wait to work with and advocate. All ethnicities, gender identifications, backgrounds, etc. are encouraged to apply.
Projects and Learning Outcomes:
- Gain experience in affordable housing programs.
- Gain experience conducting telephone and e-mail outreach to homeless and underhoused individuals and medical and homeless providers throughout the state.
- Lead a project aimed at creating a system to conduct outreach and track outcomes to connect individuals in need of affordable housing to subsidized housing opportunities by helping them complete web-based applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Ability to navigate online applications
- Enrolled in a college degree program, pursuing a degree in a related field
- Strong attention to detail, excellent communication and customer service skills, and able to work both independently and as a part of the team.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations: • Sit at a computer station for extended periods of time
- Ability to keyboard for extended periods of time
Compensation:
- Part-time internship between 10-15 hours per week

The Development Team at AIDS Action is looking for an intern to help promote the AIDS Walk & Run Boston. Supervised by the Development events team, this internship will primarily be focused on outreach events and promotion of the walk through various tabling and recruiting opportunities. The intern will assist the Development team on various projects including the development of a tabling and recruiting strategy and the implementation of that plan.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain exposure to social justice issues as well as for someone interested in fundraising, event planning, marketing and public relations. Projects and Learning Outcomes:
- Gain experience in fundraising event logistics and production, and how to effectively work with vendors and volunteers to produce a successful large-scale fundraising event
- Learn cross-team communications and project management skills, content creation for outreach, promotional materials and social media campaigns, how to use web-based fundraising platforms, and gain exposure to specific development terminology
- Learn how to translate a nonprofit’s mission and services into compelling content for promotional activities
- Gain planning, communication, and donor relations experience by assisting with organizing participant recruitment and fundraising events, and staffing information tables
- Obtain first-hand experience with event planning and event execution on the day of the Walk
Preferred Qualifications:
- Outgoing, friendly, driven, personable, not afraid to talk to strangers!
- Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and others
- Enrolled in a college degree program
- Experience working in an administrative office setting preferred

Housing Search and Advocacy Volunteer

Volunteers help Housing Search Specialists by filing, organizing, and photocopying housing applications, and by calling property managers and housing authorities to discuss client needs and housing options. Volunteers in this position will play an integral role in providing the most up-to-date housing resources and information to our staff and clients. Volunteers in this position also have the option of assisting with weekly housing search groups for clients of AIDS Action Committee who are currently homeless or are looking for alternative housing. Volunteers work one-on-one with clients within the group to help them complete housing applications. We are looking for volunteers who are detail-oriented, proactive, and excited about working on projects to improve access to affordable housing for our clients. Volunteers must be available between 9 am and 5 pm on week days. Our Housing and Residential Programs are located at 75 Amory Street, Boston, MA 02119.

Boomerangs Volunteers (Jamaica Plain, Central Square, the South End, and Dedham)
Boomerangs offers both individual and group volunteer opportunities at our Dedham Distribution Center. While sizing, tagging, and hanging clothing volunteers can channel their inner fashionista and build comradery with their fellow team members. Every garment that is prepared for sale helps to secure critical funding for client programs at AIDS Action Committee.
