We are excited to announce that Julie Thompson, PA-C, Fenway Health’s Medical Director of Trans Health, was elected to the USPATH Board of Directors for a two year term starting in April 2022.
USPATH (United States Professional Association of Transgender Health) is the national affiliate of WPATH (World Professional Association of Transgender Health), which is an interdisciplinary professional and educational organization devoted to creating the standards of gender affirming care internationally. USPATH is comprised of professional and student members across the country engaging in clinical and academic research to develop evidenced-based medicine and strives to promote the highest quality care for trans and gender diverse individuals in the US.
The USPATH Board of Directors are involved in steering subcommittees and projects, clinical care guidelines, creating and implementing educational opportunities for members across the country, and supporting research in the field of gender affirming care. WPATH/USPATH guidance plays a large role in directing insurance coverage for medically necessary services for trans and gender diverse communities.
Thompson joined Fenway Health in 2010 as a primary care provider and specializes in LGBTQIA+ health, high-resolution anoscopy, and is an HIV Specialist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine. In 2018, she was named Medical Director of the Trans Health Program, previously serving as Co-Director since 2016, and works to guide Fenway’s multidisciplinary team approach to provide high-quality, informed care to the trans and gender diverse communities.
Thompson leads on-going education to support Fenway’s medical providers, as well as works interdepartmentally to ensure Fenway is a welcome space for all patients, regardless of how they identify. She also provides trainings through the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center, and is core faculty on TransECHO and TransLINE, both of which are transgender medical consultative services for health care providers across the country.
“I’m honored and excited to serve in this role and to be involved at one of the highest levels to positively impact medical care and services for trans and gender diverse individuals across the country,” said Thompson.
Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved appointment!
