Sam’s Story: Change the Narrative. Change a Life. Support AIDS Action.

When Sam, a client who had been using drugs for over ten years, visited the Access: Drug User Health Program at AIDS Action for the first time, they were worried about sharing personal information. Keeping in mind anonymity and confidentiality, the counselors at Access respected Sam’s privacy, listening to what they were comfortable sharing and offering answers to questions about health services and safe injection. A week later, Sam returned to Access after seeing that it was not only a safe space, but a program that prioritizes quality and holistic health care for drug users.

Sam eventually decided they wanted to enter into detox, and they came to Access to learn about and get connected to resources. Access was able to help Sam make an appointment for the same day, with support services to help them through the process.

From clinical support services and housing assistance to the OBAT program for obtaining Suboxone or Vivitrol, Access is able to help clients navigate the process of recovery when they decide they are ready.
