Fenway Health is pleased to announce that Tanekwah Hinds, Women’s Health Program Coordinator, has been selected for a Healthy Community Leadership Award from Boston Alliance for Community Health (BACH).
According to BACH, the Healthy Community Leadership Award honors Bostonians who are either immigrants, persons of color, or from an underrepresented group who have taken a leadership role in a community-based coalition or organization, to help improve the health of the community and address racial and ethnic inequities in Boston.
“It is an honor to be receiving the Healthy Community Leadership Award,” Tanekwah said. “I am thankful to Fenway Health and the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth for giving me the resources and support to organize spaces for LGBTQ+ women and youth. I hope that I can uplift other community members and leaders through my work to do the same for others.”
This year’s awards will be presented publicly at the BACH Annual Meeting, Tuesday, December 12, 5:30 – 8 PM at the Bruce Bolling Municipal Building in Dudley Square, Roxbury.
“Tanekwah is doing an amazing job,” said Dr. Jennifer Potter, Co-Chair of The Fenway Institute and former Director of Women’s Health. “In her role as an outreach coordinator, she collaborates with a wide variety of community organizations to serve the health of communities at the intersection of race, gender, and sexual orientation. Last year’s successes include: a yoga series for trans women of color with TransCEND; a film screening and panel discussion on HIV among LGBTQ women of color with the Lesbians of Color Symposium; creation of an affirming resource guide for queer and transgender people of color at the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition Youth Empowerment Conference; queer women’s empowerment workshops for Roxbury LGBTQ residents of color; and Fenway’s annual Audre Lorde Cancer Awareness Brunch.”
Please join us in congratulating Tanekwah on this well-deserved honor!
